Dentures are removable false teeth implanted in your mouth to replace missing teeth.
Dentures can replace an entire set of missing teeth in any one of the jaws (Full Dentures) or can be built to replace a few missing teeth while the natural teeth are intact (Partial Dentures). Dentures are made by Dentists, Dental Prosthetists or Specialist Prosthodontists using plastic. However, Partial dentures can be made of metal or a combination of metal and plastic. Whatever material they may be made of, dentures need to be cut out to fit your mouth perfectly while allowing you to chew your food quickly and clearly speak.
If you have teeth missing, you certainly need dentures, and depending on the number of teeth missing, you can go for full or partial dentures.
By installing dentures in your mouth to replace fallen teeth, you can restore your mouth's functionality. From chewing easily to speaking clearly, dentures can help you achieve it all.
A kind of gum infection, periodontal disease can cause the gums to turn red, swollen, and tender. This may affect the tooth and lead to tooth extractions thus, which in turn, creates a need for dentures.
Dental cavities can cause severe damage to the teeth and eventually lead to denture implantation to replace missing and damaged teeth.
A natural set of teeth has a profound effect on maintaining facial structure & decay. Damage or missing teeth can cause the facial muscles to sag. Replacing the missing teeth with dentures can restore your facial structure.
The periphery of stock trays is lined with wax, and the preliminary impression of the patient’s mouth is taken. The impression is then poured on a dental stone.
Custom impression trays are fabricated along with the respective wax bite rims. The bite rims should effectively indicate incisal edge positions, the occlusal plates, and the midline.
Master casts are created using an articulator based on the custom-tray impressions and bite rim measurements to understand the relationship of the jaw and map the patient’s bite precisely.
The teeth are then set according to the desired occlusal scheme, ensuring they are in the correct form and function.
Wax is added around the teeth to build the contours. Care must be taken to add ample wax to create natural-looking teeth and facial structure.
The well-fitting model is secured with the plaster and placed in the flask and the denture. More plaster is added, and the flask is heated to soften the wax, which is flushed out to get the perfect-sized teeth and denture mould to be filled with acrylic.
This step involves mixing the monomer and the polymer to form acrylic. The measurements must be accurate.
The acrylic is packed into the flask, and pressure is applied to achieve the correct hardness. Once the desired hardness is achieved, the denture is taken to the final stages of preparation.
The process of hand-finishing involves the removal of extra acrylic using special burs and checking the articulation of the model.
The denture is polished using mops and paste. This is a crucial step to ensure that it looks just like your natural teeth, with the same shine and colour.
