Teeth cleaning at our South Yarra location means we’ll offer you EMS Airflow Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) treatment for your standard cleaning procedure. This world-class Swiss technology is quiet and minimally invasive, using air and warm water to clean dental plaque and stains from your gums and teeth.
It is estimated that 1mm of dental plaque contains more than 200 million bacteria. If this remains on the surface of your tooth, the bacteria can multiply and develop a biofilm. This cluster of bacteria can produce gum disease and compromise your body’s immune system if neglected.
When using the EMS AIRFLOW device, your dentist or oral therapist will begin the appointment with a comprehensive examination, followed by applying a coloured dye on your teeth, which ultimately stains the plaque and biofilm on your teeth and gums. This is a tremendous educational tooth for you to determine which areas require improvement with general cleaning:
Pink Stain: Bacteria that has only been on the tooth surface for roughly 24 hours.
Dark Blue Stain: Bacteria on the tooth surface for more than 24 hours.
Light Blue Stain: Acid-producing plaque that is at a high risk of causing cavities.
The dentist/oral therapist will provide oral hygiene instructions and tips on correctly cleaning the areas with more plaque build-up. Next, they will use the EMS AIRFLOW, which combines a fine cleaning powder, water, and air to remove the biofilm or soft plaque on the teeth. Once the biofilm is removed, if there is any remaining tartar buildup, an ultrasonic scaler can be used.
The EMS AIRFLOW may be for you! Besides the gentle air jet, the airflow technology uses warm water to reduce tooth sensitivity during the procedure.
